Spatial Planning and Schematic Design

The top image is our schematic layout of the space based on the adjaceny matrix that we created. We took into consideration what was most important to be next to each other, and tried to go from there.
The rest of the images are our spatial planning explorations for each of the spaces, as well as each of the systems of furniture. These are the most basic ideas for each of these spaces so that we understand the general size requirements to help with our designs.

Project 1 Final Posters

Project 1

Self Assessment:
1) This project really warmed my mind up again to start thinking creatively. At first I was sitting at my desk staring at a cactus wondering how in the world I was going to use it as a creative inspiration. Then I began to think about it as a well of life and decided to just have fun with it. There aren't many opportunities in our design classes to just come up with something totally off the wall and crazy like a cactus playland, or an orchid lounger. I was really happy with my final outcomes though, I know they were very literal, but I love that about it. It is just something that was really fun to think about and draw.
2) If I had had more time I would have definitely pushed my ideas further. I would also have worked on SketchUp models more. I feel like I am starting to get a grasp on all of the new tools but extra practice never hurts, and I feel like I wouldn't of completed the project if I had tried to model everything in SketchUp, though I would have liked to try.
3) I feel as if I have contributed to the studio culture by asking questions and discussing my ideas between other students. I know that I get more inspired when talking to them about their projects, and I hope I can help them. This is what makes a studio class so great, the ability to bounce ideas off of one another.
4) Thinking about the few finished projects I have seen, there are definitely moments of "arg, why didn't I think of that?". But I think that helps in pushing my project forward, because once I have seen others, it gives me an opportunity to think about what I could of done differently to mine.
5) All in all I tried quite hard on this project, and had a great time doing it. I wish I could of done more on SketchUp. and I feel like I was timid with it, but I did step outside of my boundaries. I would give myself a B+
6) In the future, time is just such a necessary thing, I would really like to of had a couple extra days to continue forming these ideas into something great. And it was a bit of a SketchUp overload. It would of helped a lot to of been able to practice the tools more here so we could ask more questions so I wouldn't be so lost at home.
